Gerber beside cheap clone: you get what you pay for!
In comparison to the Leatherman Wave, the Gerber Legend 800 doesn’t pack quite as many tools. Those it does include, however, are generally tougher, better designed and likely to last longer than Leatherman equivalents. Clear advantage goes to the Gerber for its sprung pliers, interchangeable wire-cutter blades, changeable saw blade and superb Fiskars sprung scissors.

The Leatherman is slightly lighter and less bulky, and does include a socket bit driver (useful if you need to deal with torx bits, security bits or mini-sockets), a ruler and a can opener. The Leatherman also has the lanyard attachment that is missing from the Gerber!

In use the Gerber feels like the more solid, professional tool. The nylon sheath can accommodate extra tools in its front pocket, and if you stuff it with some small screwdrivers, extra saw blades and allen keys, it would make the basis for an excellent emergency tool kit. I know which tool I’d want to have with me if I get shipwrecked on a deserted island!
